Silk was born in Fredericton (New Brunswick), Canada. Ilkay is the daughter of Peter who is an educator as well as an actor and playwright who is a top performer. Peter was educated at St. Thomas University. Anna remembers certain memories she had as a child, including being a spectator at play rehearsals. Silk appeared as a little girl in several commercials. She was in 1997 when she earned an associate's degree from St. Thomas University. Theatre St. Thomas has produced two shows in its initial years: Seven Menusand The Kitchen. Silk moved from Toronto on November 29, 1999 to Los Angeles during the next decade. Seth Cooperman met Silk at an acting workshop in Los Angeles in 2007. They were engaged in 2009 and married in a civil ceremony that December. In Fredericton on 10 April 2011, following her decision to convert to Judaism they renewed vows during a Jewish wedding ceremony.
